Not terrible, but flawed in a few respects

Mostly ok for an entry level 7.2 receiver, with a couple complaints. First off, the receiver will randomly turn off or on, despite my reviewing the troubleshooting section of the manual and checking all settings. Secondly, this unit should be equipped with an ethernet port for software updates, rather than forcing the owner to upload software updates onto a flash drive using their computer and then plugging the info into the receiver that way. This process is simply archaic and not at all user friendly. For the money this receiver serves the purpose, but given these shortcomings I wish I'd bought a more advanced unit instead.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

Ok sound, nothing really stands out. Auto EQ is finicky but after several tries I got a close to flat sound. Unit basically works as described. Nice for an entry level unit.

Compared to my Denon AVR1700 has a better bass response. Watts per ch is higher up grade but volume has to be higher at low end, might have to do with room calibration being smaller. Denon could be set small medium or large or feet. So volume level started sooner which I prefer. But the Onkyo HDMI ports for todays add on is really nice, sound is clean and top end volume will rock your world just fine. Still impressive in this price range.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Love the sound. Wish it had a dial to switch speakers easily. Also gets very hot on top which was an issue with my last receiver also.
