Monitor your front door with the linen Doorbell (Battery) from Nest. This dual-band Wi-Fi doorbell can be powered with the included battery or existing doorbell wiring to capture 960 x 1280 resolution video. It features a 145° diagonal field of view, up to 10' of night vision, two-way audio with noise cancellation, and a PIR motion and proximity sensor.
The doorbell is IP54 rated for protection from dust and splashing water.
I was really excited to be getting this Nest Doorbell, but a little curious as to how hard it would be to set up. Turns out, it was a piece of cake to set up!
The quick start guide walks you easily through the set up process, and it all went just as it should. It probably took 10 minutes at mos...t. That doesn't include mounting, just setting the camera up for use, and connecting to my existing Google Home network.
During set up, the camera activates so you can see the picture and choose the best location for mounting. (After I did that, I came back in and captured a screenshot of my living room so you can see the wide range and quality of the camera.) The camera has a vertical view, a 3:4 ratio, so you can see people at your door from head to toe, as well as packages on your porch. I figured that pretty much anywhere I mount it near my front door is going to work. It's also got HDR and night vision.
I haven't mounted it yet, because it arrived when we were having a huge snowstorm, and I just haven't gotten out to do it. But that looks super easy, too. There's a mounting bracket that screws on to your wall, and the camera easily attaches to that. There are no wires, which is awesome. It does come with a small wire connector, which looks like you can use to connect it, if you are replacing an existing doorbell. Otherwise, it runs on battery power and connects through wifi.
Reading more about it on the website, it looks like your battery can operate up to 7 months without recharging, if you have all of your settings set to conserve power, and little activity. It comes with a usb-c cable for charging. The port is on the back, so you'd simply remove it from the mount and take indoors to plug in and charge it.
It's got lots of features, which you can read about on the website. I was able to easily add it to my existing Google Home network. No problems at all.
And, the thing is beautiful and classy looking! It's got a big doorbell button, but is sleek and minimalistic in style. And when you hold it in your hand, it feels heavy, and feels like your holding a great quality item. I love it and would definitely recommend it to others!

No Alexa compatibility; battery life disappointing
I was interested in the Nest Doorbell over other video doorbells because of the high rating from Consumer Reports for the wired version. I researched ahead of time and was under the impression this was compatible with Alexa, but after 2 hours trying to link this to my Alexa skill and lots of wifi/a...pp and other troubleshooting and then more time for additional research it became clear that the battery version has no Alexa compatibility as of this writing. The wired version does. Seriously? We are an Alexa house. We had a doorbell but no way to hear audible chimes/alerts in the house (or see video) unless using the app on my phone. So I tried to figure out how I could make this work for us. SimpliSafe hub compatibility? Nope. Only the Nest Thermostat is compatible with the SimpliSafe hub. Are you sensing my frustration? So I bit the bullet and bought 2 Google Nest minis so that we could hear the audible chime in the house for the doorbell. Even with both of the minis at max volume for alerts, the chime is not as loud as our previous doorbell. As far as set up, it was quick and easy. FYI - you need a google email account for set up (I do not, my husband does). The Google Home app is straightforward to use and setting up the doorbell was easy. As far as installation, you will need to drill holes to install. In the 36 hours since we have been using this, the battery has gone from 100% (6mos) to 95% (4 mos). We are a family of 4 with average usage and camera activity. But it's been cold out, as in less than 25 degrees. So at this rate during winter, I expect to have to recharge the battery at 2 months or perhaps earlier. The battery is not able to be independently removed for charging (also not allowing me to purchase additional batteries for convenience). You have to remove the entire doorbell from the mount to charge it. Complete miss on this design. So, if the lack of Alexa compatibility, potential for short battery life, and the charging inconvenience aren't going to negatively impact you, you will probably have a more positive experience than I have. It's not all negative. The video is great, the response time is great and it looks nice. Wondering whether I would be happier with a SimpliSafe or Ring doorbell, but this is what we have so I'll stick with it for now.

This is a great doorbell camera option for anyone looking to upgrade their doorbell. The quality is great, the image is great and the installation is very straightforward! I wish the battery would last longer, but it gives you enough of a heads up to do it while you're home.

Awesome camera, I already have products that use Google home, so it fit right in. I love being able to see and talk to my customers when I am in the back and the only one here, it keeps prospective new customers from walking away without being able to speak to some one.

Easy to set up. Nice quality of video. We had other cameras set up around the house that constantly go off to nothing. This only goes off when there is actual movement which is nice. I like the phone notifications as well.

I don't have experience with smart doorbells but this is pretty neat. Instructions are super easy, you get a link to watch a video for step to step instructions. It comes with the whole setup to install on a wall. A metal plate has a 30-degree angle for better view. Mounting wasn't easy for me as I have a brick house that needed to be attached. It took me about 30 minutes to find the right tool to attach the metal plate. Love the clear view it's provided and turned automatically in night mode by itself ( see attached picture). It's doesn't actually ring a bell but sends me and my husband notifications on our phone. I can talk to people at the door and they can talk to me. All the cars and people coming in my driveway. Mind you we have many deers hanging out in our yard especially at night. So far not been a single notification of deers moving in my front yard from our smart doorbell which is pretty neat. It saves the recording and you can watch who came and what package is outside. It's doesn't seem to save more than a day worth of recording unless I am missing something. So far I am happy with the ring.

I wanted a video doorbell to show me in real-time who or what is at the front door. After some research I decided to get a Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) which uses a charging cable for the built-in rechargeable Li-Ion battery. This means there is no hassle wiring the doorbell. Along with the Nest Doorbell it comes with a charge cable, base plate, 20" wedge, wedge screws, spacers, release tool, wall screws and anchors, and wire connector. The wire connector is for those who have existing wiring to connect to the existing doorbell chime.
In order to use the doorbell you must have a Google Account, Google Home App, WiFi Network, and a mobile device. Of course, it works with Hey Google. It was simple to attach the doorbell outside next to my front door.
I receive notifications on my phone, Google Assistant speakers, and displays when someone rings the doorbell or leaves a package. The doorbell has a 2 way speaker and built-in microphone giving me the ability to talk to whomever is at the front door from anywhere with my phone. This doorbell shows video 24/7 with a view where you can see from the ground all the way up to someone's head. Oh, it has great night vision. I can even go into the video history to watch something I missed.
There were a few selling points that impressed me. First, this product uses 45% recycled plastic parts. Second, if someone removes my doorbell illegally Google Nest will replace it for free. Lastly, Google Nest provides exceptional security and privacy for my family. Also, It comes with a 1yr limited warranty. #NestDoorbell #VideoDoorbell #Reesetishas2cents #reesetisha @madebygoogle @google @reesetisha

The Nest Doorbell (battery) has easy to follow instructions for installation and use. It shows a vertical view of the person on the porch along with a view of any packages left. Great security for those periods of time you are away or asleep.

I absolutely love that this doorbell syncs with Google, and not Alexa. Set up was pretty easy overall. It looks sleek when installed. Battery lasts quite awhile. The doorbell works very well and the video quality is quite impressive. I would definitely recommend!

I just installed the Google Nest Doorbell – and so far, I can recommend it based on the fact that overall - it works great and does everything I'd hoped and expected. Here are the other pros:
- Installation guide was easy to start and understand.
- The actual connection to the permanent bracket is very simple and easy to use when needing to charge the doorbell.
- Connection to the app and setting up the device was very straight forward.
- Camera quality is good, as is the audio clarity for the microphone and speaker
- Hoping battery life is good with video on its highest setting - to be determined,.
There are a few cons:
- Our mounting point is on Hardi siding, and the mounting bracket is not ideal for an angled surface such as this. It took a few tries to get a good spot on the siding that was vertical as needed. The resulting aesthetic is not ideal with empty space behind the bracket – it makes it look a bit temporary.
- The battery powered version does not provide an audible ring tone outside, so people who press it may not have a sense of whether it's working or not.
- I'm guessing this is user error – but the notification on my phone and iPad aren't audible. I almost wish the notification was a loud "ding dong" like a doorbell.
- Adding family members to the Home account for access to this required a Google email account (not everyone in the family has one).

Great battery powered doorbell camera

The Google Nest is a great option for those that need a battery powered smart doorbell. It has a good balance of features, video quality, and price.
Video quality is good with a 960x1280 resolution, the resolution is not best in class but provides good enough quality for most homes and users. The aspect ratio gives you a taller field of view which is great for being able to capture packages that get left on the ground. Night time and low-light performance was acceptable. This battery model does not support 24/7 recording, only the wired Nest doorbell supports that feature. This is not the model for you if you require 24/7 recording. The free level of service provides 3 hours of event history, I think this is just barely enough for most users but ultimately depends on how much activity you get at your door daily. If you need more recording time and history you will have to go with one of the 2 levels of Nest Aware paid subscription.
One negative is that you need to remove the doorbell from the mount to charge the battery. Battery life though does seem to be very good and doesn't require charging very often. I believe it's advertised to last around 2-3 months.
Another issue may you run into is possible theft and the need for anti-theft mounting options. There is a replacement policy that covers theft, but it requires a police report to qualify for a replacement.
The doorbell connects to and is controlled with the Google Home app. It is pretty easy to use and has many useful and essential features, I hope that the app is regularly updated and improved on by Google. I didn't experience any issues with the app on my mid-tier phone. The tracking and recognition between person, packages, and animals worked great for me and the alert feature allows you to be notified. You can also communicate with people at your door even if you are not home yourself, this really helps with security and safety as those at the door don't know you're not home.
Build quality is fine for a door bell and it's held up to the elements well. This doorbell is quite a bit larger(longer) than most of it's competitors. The plastic is matte and looks better than a glossy finish.
Overall this is a good choice if you don't need 24/7 recording and can live with the limited free tier of service or don't mind paying a $60+ a year subscription for more recording history and additional features.
