      With multiple heat wave warnings in NYC this summer and an old AC unit that wasn't working, our apartment unit was a greenhouse and in urgent need of a new air conditioner. After much research, the Midea U was a no-brainer as a new and innovative AC but most importantly, easy to install and works great in the home! First of its kind, it took about an hour to install only because I installed it myself but instructions were very easy to follow with a YouTube video that provides step-by-step detailed explanation. Upon installation, not only does it have a professional, clean and premium look but it cooled my unit in what felt like a matter of minutes. If you're in the market for a reliable, quiet and quick cooling AC unit where you can also open the window for some fresh air, the only unit this would be (safely) possible, I would highly recommend the Midea U!

      Great unit, until it starts to smell. Clean it yourself? Nope, Midea won't let you and won't tell you how. You have to bring it to a "technician" to clean it for you, and every estimate I got for a cleaning was as much as it would cost for a brand new unit. Very cool of them to not tell you this before buying!

      We own the first 8k BTU unit for two years and it is still works great in the bedroom. We purchased a second unit for the living room a month ago. Shortly after installation we discover that the unit randomly produces a DULL VIBRATION during a certain regime. The vibration is low frequency and not very loud. But the problem is that it transmits through the window glass that works like an amplifier or a loud speaker propagating this vibration through the room. I am literally feel it inside my body. The first unit does not have this issue. We noticed this issue was reported in other reviews. It appears to be some design or parts flaw in the latest models. Had to return the unit. Disappointing.

      Water collects even with window degree tilt as suggested in install guide and frequent cleaning. Mold and dust develop on a difficult to access internal fan. Called customer service and they offered to send a tech out to drill a hole in the unit. Lot of money wasted.

      This AC quit working in two months. The thermostat must be broken. It is registering the temperature in my 80 to 90 degree bedroom as 52 degrees. The AC does not work below 60 degreees. I also have a 12000 btu unit purchased at the same time that is rusting. I file a complaint with the BBB and this is Mideas response: Hello Mary, Based on the information from our product support team, the rust is from the bottom base pan. The slinger ring picks up the condensate water that has the brown rust particles and sprays it around. You can see the rust color on the plastic fan blade shroud as well. This confirms that the issue isn't with the product or it's material and that the product is working as designed.  This is not covered under the manufactures warranty.  We do apologize for any inconvenience this situation may have caused.  Thank you for your time.       Contacted MIDEA they wanted a video kinda hard to video vibration through house. While running the compressor shakes and vibrates the house.

      Cannot close my blinds and therefore I have no privacy. There is over 5 inches of window on each side of the AC where people walking by can look in. The feature of being able to open the window sounded wonderful but in real time I could not close my screen. It does not fit into the U shape. Therefore, why anyone would open their window without a screen to stop bugs and other animals from coming in is beyond me. Terrible design! Very disappointed in this air conditioner and do not recommend. The U shape should be wider so a screen can be pulled down to fit into the U shape. And I have no idea how you would fit a blind in the U shape too. The entire design needs to be thought through better and redesigned. If you don't need privacy undressing, sleeping, etc, this AC does cool well and is very quiet. I may be returning it. I had to buy a decorative film to stick on the glass for privacy which defeats the purpose of the design of being able to have more light coming through the window. Shame.

      If you value your privacy don't buy this product! Sure you can open your window, but there's no screen so bugs get in! And if you try to lower your blinds, you can't and you have about 5 inches of space on both sides of unit where people can look in and light gets in. Plus it does NOT seal good and bugs get in. Totally unsatisfied with this item. But it does cool nice and technology features are useful but not necessary.

      AC works and I like that I can still look out of part of the window, however... every bug in a five-mile radius wants in, and they all manage it. This unit is installed on the second floor and swatting bugs, beetles, spiders, moths, and flies has become a sport. It's disgusting. Considering whether a mesh cover would be feasible.
