The Amazon Smart thermostat is a simple, modern looking unit that is setup through step-by-step guidance on the Alexa app. It's priced well and the remote connectivity seems to work great, which was my main purpose of purchasing. A $50 rebate was available through electric company making this almost free. Two things that were not perfect for me. One is my fault. Pay attention to the wiring on your current thermostat and understand if you have a heat pump or other non-conventional setups as sometimes old units use the same terminal for more than one thing. The second seems to be a lack in design features at this point and that's related to the 'hunches' that would allow the thermostat to be smart. I am not the only one living in the house but it was only reacting to away when I was gone. That's fine except when another person is home and the temp auto bumps up to our away warmer A/C setting. It also didn't seem to pickup on sleep very well, which is when we like it cooler. Until the features are improved, we will just use it as a dummy thermostat with a schedule, and continue trying to save some money by bumping up when away but with the luxury of turning back to "home" temp before returning home.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend
