Product Description

Sensor and Image Processor

High resolution 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor and high performance DIGIC 6 image processor combine to provide fast AF, exceptional image quality, and sharp detail in both photo and video.

Full HD 1080p Movies

Shoot full HD 1080p movies at 24, 25, or 30 fps with stereo audio when using an external microphone utilizing the 3.5mm input jack. Manual Movie mode gives you full control over the video recording by adjusting shutter speed, aperture, and ISO.

ISO Sensitivity

ISO sensitivity on the M3 ranges from 100-12800, but expands to 25600 for faster shutter speeds and sharper details in low light.

Hybrid CMOS AF III

A combination of both Contrast AF and Phase Detect AF increases accuracy and auto-focus speed in both photo and video.

Manual Focus

When focusing manually, you can magnify any point on the LCD screen 5x or 10x, and your focal point can be confirmed with the on-screen focus peaking.

3.0" 1,040k-Dot Touchscreen Tilting LCD

The 3.0" Clear View II LCD monitor keeps glare to a minimum and makes it easy to see images even in bright light. The 1,040k-dot resolution is ideal for playback and focusing, and the smudge-resistant coating on the LCD reduces the appearance of fingerprints. Numerous camera operations can be handled by the touchscreen including touch AF control, whereby you touch the LCD screen on the part of the image you want in focus. The LCD has an adjustable five-level brightness control, a viewing angle of 170°, and an aspect ratio of 3:2.

Noise Reduction

Multi Shot Noise Reduction preserves fine detail in photos at high ISO speeds. With MSNR activated, the camera takes four consecutive shots of the same image, then merges and aligns them, reducing noise and blur.

Continuous Shooting and Burst Rate

The M3 can shoot up to 4.2 frames per second for up to 1,000 JPEG images or 5 RAW images.

Advanced Imaging Features

The M3 features shooting modes that allow photographers to take advantage of digital advancements to improve their shooting results. Scene Intelligent Auto mode for stills and video optimizes all of the camera's auto controls to provide the best settings based on the camera's reading of the scene. The EOS-M also offers 8 Creative Filters to enhance your images, including HDR, Fish-Eye Effect, Art Bold Effect, Water Painting Effect, Miniature Effect (Stills and Movie), Toy Camera Effect, Soft Focus, and Grainy B/W.

Hot Shoe and Built-In Flash

The built-in pop-up flash features a guide number of 16.4' (5m) at ISO 100 and covers up to an 18mm focal length. The flash has a recycle time of 3 seconds and can sync up to 1/200 sec. An integrated E-TTL II-compatible hot shoe enables the addition of an external flash or trigger.

Dust Deletion Feature

A self-cleaning sensor removes dust on the low-pass filter. It is executed automatically when the camera is powered on or off.

I have a t6s, and wanted a spare camera to use beside it. I got first a M2. It was not what I was looking for, so I resold it immediately and got the M3 with the 18/55IS STM. I just love it. It was a little tricky to set the WIFI, but thank you YouTube. I have installed the "Canon Connect" app on my cellphone and now I can use BOTH camera with my cellphone as remote. I just have to choose the Wifi corresponding to the camera. It works also with the computer. What I do recommend, is to read the user's guide completely. That seem evident, but I never did before with all my precedent Canon cameras. And I can tell you, THAT HELP!. That said, Most of the options are intuitive. My biggest restriction is about the flipping screen. Why Canon did not set a fully flipping one, like on some other cameras like the t6s or the G12 for example? I will definitely recommend this camera to friends. Last advantage, with the M/S adaptor, I can use all my "big" lenses on the M3.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

I've been shooting with and original 7D since it came out. I love it but it is heavy on long hikes. I got the M3 to use hiking but in truth, I have hardly used the 7D since buying the M3. In most respects it is a better camera. My one complaint, The tilting LCD. Why oh why did Canon not make it fully articulated? Both the screen and the add on EVF tilt but neither helps if you are shooting a vertical format image from down low.

This is not a DSLR and does not try to be so don't expect it to be. I own other Canon DSLRs and numerous lenses. As mentioned in other reviews this is a great walk around camera. Sometimes you just don't want to lug around a full size camera when out exploring. There is a limit to what a camera phone can do. This bridges the gap between camera phones and DSLRs quite nicely. Know what you want from a camera and this one won't disappoint. I bought the EVF-DC2 and had to upgrade the firmware, Easy to do.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

This is an excellent camera! Use it for what it's made for, a walk around camera. This is not a replacement for a professional camera. I have other Canon cameras, 5DIII, 6D, & 7D. I bought the M3 so I wouldn't have to lug a heavy professional camera around all the time. So, I wonder why people expect to get a $4K camera out of a $600 camera. Learn the camera's features, it has a lot.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

I've owned Canon equipment since my first F-1 in 1973. I currently have a T2i and a 5D2 along with 7 L series zooms and assorted other Canon glass. I did't like the M at all. I wanted a lighter travel camera than what I currently owned. I bought the M3 18-55 kit, lens adapter an EVF. Nice outdoor camera. When attaching any of my L glass, the M3 looks and feels disproportional and unwieldy. The body is too short to hold, I have battery grips on the dslrs, and the L glass w/hoods and my hand blocks the IR led. In low light, I shoot a lot of concerts, the camera and lens either can't lock in to focus, wastes too much time to focus or is unable to focus. Focusing with my 70-200 L IS with a 1.4x tele-extender or my 100-400L IS not a problem for the dslrs. With the EVF, batteries die quickly. Maybe the M4 will correct deficiencies.

I bought this camera 2 month ago. The image quality is amazing, very ergonomic, fit like a glove. With the 22mm lens is amazing. Is a mini tank. Is a serious update from the previous M version.

I got the camera for Christmas. For anyone who has a lot of Canon lenses this is a great camera. The adapter turns each lens into a compact camera version of its big brothers. Since I already had the G1-X with an attached DC-1 electronic viewfinder this rig is very powerful. Plus it attaches to all my Canon external flashes. When I try to use Canon Cameras with Wi Fi it is a nightmare, and the M3 is even worse. I can view pictures I took but trying to use remote settings it say can't be done because camera is set on public images,a nonexistent setting as far as I know.
