Product Description

20.2 MP High-Sensitivity CMOS Sensor and DIGIC 6 Image Processor

The 20.2-megapixel High-Sensitivity 1" CMOS sensor and DIGIC 6 image processor work in concert to produce high resolution still imagery and full HD video recording with notable low-light quality and sensitivity to ISO 12,800. The combination of these two technologies creates the Canon HS SYSTEM, which provides effective low-light sensitivity with minimal noise and enhanced clarity to truly benefit impressive image making in dimly-lit situations. The processor also contributes to overall speed throughout the camera, including High-Speed AF, full HD 1080p video recording at 60 fps, and a full-resolution continuous shooting rate of 5.9 fps with no buffer limit. The redeveloped sensor and processor also combine to enable RAW imaging with 14-bit signal processing, the same used in Canon's EOS DSLRs, to provide high image quality with expanded post-processing capabilities.

Canon 25x Optical Zoom Lens

With a wide 24-600mm equivalent focal length, the G3 X can capture wide vistas and distant subjects without issue. It has a bright f/2.8-5.6 maximum aperture range that will benefit capture in low-light conditions. Also, Intelligent Image Stabilization is built-in to ensure sharp imagery during long shutter speeds and telephoto focal lengths.

Full HD 1080p Video Recording

Record full HD 1920 x 1080p video at up to 60 fps with the G3 X. Advanced features include an external microphone, a headphone jack, and manual controls during recording. This all works together for capturing brilliant images in a wide variety of shooting conditions. Also, it has HDMI output for quick playback on an HDTV or recording using an external device.

High-Speed AF System & Continuous Shooting

Lock focus in just 0.14 seconds with the High-Speed AF System. Thirty-one AF points ensure sharp imagery throughout the frame. When combined with the fast 5.9 fps continuous shooting rate, which has no buffer time, users can be sure they capture the decisive moment.

3.2" 1.62M-Dot Tilting Touchscreen LCD

Take selfies or work at odd angles with the multi-angle capacitive 3.2" touchscreen LCD on the rear of the G3 X. This screen also has a resolution of 1.62M-dots which display sharp, clear imagery for video or composition.

Physical Controls & Design

With a physical control ring on the lens, an exposure compensation dial, mode dial, front dial, and controller wheel, photographers looking for tactile operation will be very satisfied. This provides users fast, intuitive access to commonly adjusted settings as well as the ability to dial in certain movements through muscle memory. The body is also compact while still featuring a contoured grip and a long zoom range.

Built-In Wi-Fi Connectivity with NFC

Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity enables seamless and instant transferring of photos and videos to mobile devices, home computers, and to select social networking sites. Linking Android devices to the camera is aided through the incorporation of NFC, which facilitates connection simply by tapping the two devices. A dedicated Mobile Device Connect Button is available too, to further establish a simplified means for linking both iOS and Android devices. Additionally, Automatic Switching via the Image Sync function works to automatically sync images with any discovered and linked PC within a designated network or, alternatively, images are temporarily sent to the CANON iMAGE GATEWAY for later transferring.

Disclosure: Not a 1-inch sensor

Future purchasers take note that the sensor in the G3X is actually 8.8 mm x 13.2 mm. Not 1-inch in any direction. The 1-inch "type" sensor is an antiquated misnomer and should be purged.

I have been shooting Canon for years, 80D and predecessor with 100-400 L glass. It's amazing how this camera comes very close to the images I get with three times the weight around my neck. Just spent the weekend with the GX3 around my shoulder for the New Orleans Jazz Festival. I saw many a poor soul lugging long lenses and I guarantee I got more and better timed shots simply for the reason I had it handy ALL the time. Great camera Canon, well done.

The G3x has two competitors, Sony RX10 III and Panasonic FZ2500. The G3X has 25x zoom, the Panasonic 20x and the Sony 16x. The G3X also has touch screen. I've already owned a G3X for two years and I love it. If the touch screen and the extra zoom aren't important to you then the others may have some advantages. I think that Canon did a really nice job with the touch screen and I'd have trouble going back to all those knobs and buttons, but I do still touch the screen by mistake aoccasionally and change a setting unwittingly. Why am I getting my second one? This summer the zoom lens motor started to fail when I was pointing the camera vertically downwards, and now the zoom button is failing (the return spring no longer works). At first I thought 'only 2 years?' but then I checked my photo count and realized I'd taken 19,000 photos! I'd guess that's not bad for a motorized zoom/focus lens.

High Quality, Compact, Versatile, Durable Camera!

First, thank you for this camera, Canon! My experience has been this so far: The G3X has an AMAZING 24-600mm equivalent zoom! See my attached images, most of which are zoomed to 600mm. Sharpness and clarity does not fade at all! I included two shots at a baseball field: one at 24mm, the other at 600mm so you can see the extreme ends of the range. It simply does not disappoint! Image Stabilization is a true 4 stops! I have repeatedly shot hand-held images, at full 600mm zoom, at 1/40th second. Secondly, I love the weather sealing, which the G3X provides equivalent to the mid-range EOS cameras. You don't have to worry about dust creeping in or having to pack everything up if it starts to drizzle (Canon says not recommended to use in rain). I wanted to be able to attach a speedlite (the 430EX III looks perfect on this camera) and have control of the flash from camera, like EOS cameras. This camera does that! Finally, image quality does not disappoint for what this camera has - a 1" sensor. Too many people compare it to a full-frame DSLR, but that is just comparing apples to oranges. It's not even the same sensor size as an APS-C. I find this camera to be exceptional in well-lit situations, or with use of fill-flash for darker areas. This is NOT a low-light shooter, despite the IS. You will still get grainy images once you go past 800 ISO (even 640). The EVF is certainly a must when you go outside. It a fantastic aid, and is made of metal (i.e.: durable), shows all the data you'd see on LCD, and provides a crystal clear image of what you are shooting. Overall, I am very pleased with this camera. It is not perfect, but it suits my needs perfectly. It is extremely versatile, compact compared to a DSLR, and produces sharp, clear images, even at 600mm!

Far Exceeded Expectations!

Having owned several G-series Powershots previously, purchased the G3X versus the G5X last December. Learning to use it was not as intuitive as the previous G-powershots that I have owned, it did take some getting used to. Also, at the time of my purchase there were no options to purchase with the optional electronic viewfinder I recently had an opportunity to sink or swim with the G3X at a friends wedding. Their pro photographer failed to show and I was asked to be the wedding photographer I have been a wedding photographer prior to this but not using a non-d-slr camera. Luckily with both my photography experience and the capable G3X, amazing wedding photos were produced. The G3X far exceeded expectations! The photos were very sharply focused, great contrast, and simply amazing!! Never could I have imagined the pro-results this compact camera produced! The weather sealed body will be great for HDR ice-art photos this winter as well.

We all love these camera because they are quite compact. I have had almost every G series camera which allows me to upgrade with out having to read the manual. Currently I am using the G7X and I just brought G3X. What kills me is that we need to use an adapter for the UV filter. Both in the mountain when skiing I notice the snow dust scratches the lens of the cameras. And now on the beach I have to buy the adapter to use the G3x with a filter other wise after the summer the sand dust will have scratch it. Then with the adapter the camera does not fit in the case. The G3X has a thread so Canon please please make us a UV filter without a adapter.

Incredibly sharp photos and detail even at full zoom. On full wide angle, the corners are sharp too. I'm blown away! I got a good package price that included the electronic viewfinder. I really like the fact that it's separate. The camera is more compact when the viewfinder is not needed.
