10.2 Megapixel Back-illuminated "Exmor R" CMOS Image Sensor

The DSC-TX7 features a 10.2 megapixel "Exmor R" CMOS image sensor that brings out the full resolving power of the camera's Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® lens to deliver extremely fast speed, high resolution, and stunning low-light sensitivity with improved image clarity and drastically reduced grain. A wide angle of 25mm equivalent wide-angle lens allows you to take wider shots of the scene or group in crowded spaces.

3.5" Xtra Fine LCD touch screen display1 w/TruBlack technology

A large 3.5" Xtra Fine LCD touch screen display1 w/TruBlack technology (921K pixels), the largest of Sony's Cyber-shot DSC line makes it easy for viewing and sharing images with simple and fun touch screen operation. With its Ultra AR film coating, which reduces reflections and increases contrast and brightness, viewing images on the LCD even in bright light is possible.

Easy Touch Screen Interaction

The DSC-TX7 offers intuitive functions to the multi-purpose touch screen, such as the ability to select the focus point with a simple touch, scroll through images by sliding your finger across the screen and one-touch access to the MENU. The display also features improved readability with list view and index view.

Anti-Motion Blur Mode

Capture cleaner and sharper images in low light for non landscape shots. When set in Anti-motion Blur Mode, the DSC-TX7 captures six images in a fraction of a second with higher shouter speed and combines the data from all six to create a single image of extraordinary detail and eliminate subject blur, beyond the capability of traditional cameras.

Handheld Twilight

Capture cleaner and sharper night shots without using a tripod. When set to Handheld Twilight Mode, the DSC-TX7 captures six images in a fraction of a second with one press of the shutter, and combines the data from all six to create a single image of extraordinary detail and low noise. With these modes, you can capture images in low light, without flash, beyond the capability of traditional cameras.

Intelligent Sweep Panorama Mode

Capture expansive landscapes with Intelligent Sweep Panorama Mode. Press shutter and sweep and the camera does the rest, continuously, shooting images and in one second stitching them together. This model even detects faces and moving subjects to stitch intelligently different widths to avoid subject distortion.

Backlight Correction HDR

Shooting high-contrast scenes can often lead to washed out backgrounds and/or details lost in shadow. Backlight Correction HDR helps correct for this by taking two pictures at different exposure settings and processing the best elements of both into a single image for more natural looking shots.

High speed shooting

The DSC-TX7 can capture full 10.2 megapixel resolution images at up to 10 frames per second, helping to ensure that you capture the decisive moment such as the soccer ball flying into the goal. In addition, the DSC-TX7 employs a mechanical shutter that helps reduce distortion when continuously shooting moving subjects.

1080i AVCHD Movie Mode9

Record movies in 1080i AVCHD high definition at 60i9. The AVCHD format captures a high degree of detail and smooth movement, and when footage is burned to disc, can be played back on Blu-ray Disc players, Sony® PlayStation®3 systems and compatible PCs and HDTVs7 The convenience Movie start/stop icon makes it easy to access this mode via touch screen.

HDMI Output

HDMI connects digital audio/video sources such as a compatible camcorder, Blu-ray Disc player, a personal computer, a video game console, or an AV receiver to a compatible digital audio device and/or video monitor such as a digital television (DTV).

DVDirect® DVD recorder Compatible

With AVCHD capabilities the TX7 is compatible with the DVDirect® DVD recorder, allowing automatic playback of high definition footage. Simply insert your Memory Stick® media into the DVDirect® DVD recorder and enjoy your movies shot in high definition. (Recorder and media sold separately).

720p MP4 HD Movie Mode3

TransferJet technology

TransferJet technology, developed by Sony® and advanced and promoted by consortium of 18 other companies, allows you to transfer up to ten files between two TransferJet enabled devices just by touching them together, without the hassle of hunting for cables or the complication of pairing.11.

very very disappointing camera in some conditions

see the cons, despite what sony advertises, the pictures taken in low light are almost always (9 out of 10) very blurry and unsharp. The whole purpose of having a point and shot camera which is slim enough to slip into a pocket or purse, so you can take it with you wherever you go, is that you actually could do that, but the TX7 probed to me wrong. I bought the camera with a nice case to protect it but even with that added protection the screen cracked. I am very disappointed, if you design a product that is going to be taken to birthdays, trips, holydays, etc. it should be made to withstand does simple situations instead you have to treat it like a case full of eggs. I have had a touch screen phone in my pocket for 3 years which has fallen many times and the screen doesn't even have a scratch. In addition I haven´t had a problem with the memory stick but I had an SD memory too, which I had formatted with the camera as the manual tells you but many times I had an error message telling me to reinsert the memory card (an SD). This was completely annoying

The panoramic shots were easy to take and you don't notice "stitching" that typically occurs when using software based solutions (Photoshop, etc). I also used the 1080i video mode which came out smooth and clear. I still need to try some of the other modes like HDR backlight correction. My only small gripe is that it's sometimes easy to inadvertently press icons on the touch screen. It would've be nice to add a "hold" switch to disable the touch screen. Maybe it's just my own clumsy fingers.

so many features and easy to use them, but it´s really a shame that this cam doesn´t have the water proof system like the TX5, and also is a little bit bigger than the others TX models. If I would have known all this before, maybe I would have bought the TX5.

This camera is great, i had a sony this and have been contemplating me buying a new one for a long time, and this was the best buy i ever made. I am one to take may shots per trip and with this new panoramic view shot, its opened up a new world of photography. being able to scroll left to right and right to left is great.. the up and down feature really isnt any different from taking a vertical shot. The price is kinda high i think.. but if you buy this you should not be buying another camera for atleast 3 years.. unless something major comes out.. so in that respect its great. bottom line.. buy the camera and enjoy life through a new perspective.

I recently bought this camera for the specific purpose to take pictures and shoot video at a small concert where I knew there was going to be very limited light sources. I read about the Exmor R sensor but wasn't expecting such amazing results. With very little light inside the small compact venue, I got really nice shots of the stage and the singer. The Hand-Held Twilight mode was what really shined in this very dark setting. What really blew me away was the quality of the 1080p HD video under the same conditions. There was very little noise during playback and the stereo mic picked up very acceptable audio. As for the cons. The front sliding panel could've used a little notch or grip to help slide it open or closed. The surface is really smooth and sometimes it's hard to operate. The biggest downside is that the battery really does not hold up. I bought an additional battery because of the reviews I've read about this camera. After an afternoon of shooting pictures around the city, I had to switch out the battery during the middle of the concert. This is why I give it a 4 start in reliability. I highly suggest you get a nice case that has a compartment for a spare battery or two. The supplied battery charger also takes a very, very, very long time to fully charge what is a relatively low-capacity battery. Sony does have a separate quick charge plug, but for the price of this camera, that charger should've been included instead of the one supplied. I've purchased two additional batteries and the quick charger for an additional cost of about $140 more. This is why I give it a 3 start in value. The dock is very handy to view and play your media through an HDTV, but it does not come with an AC adapter. So be weary when streaming large movie files to your HDTV because the battery will drain quickly. I purchased the additional AC adapter, but again, this should have been included with the price. Baring those battery and charging issues, I think the performance of this camera really does make up for it's faults. There is no other ultra-compact point and shoot on the market that has the same feature set and HD movie mode that the TX7 has. I've owned (and returned) both the Flip Mino HD and the Kodak Zi8 but their lack of optical zoom, horrible low-light sensitivity, lack of image stabilization and not having the ability to also shoot 10MP photos makes this an easy choice.

I mostly shoot semi-pro equipment, but always longed for a point and shoot that could deliver quality near what I get with those film and digital cameras. When I saw the commercial for this camera I loved the sweep panorama idea and as I shoot a lot of panos I bought it for that feature alone. I did not expect to find everything else. The HDR is hot and doesn't require Photoshop like my other digital images do. The twilight hand held mode and low light capability are surprisingly good. Finally I have a small camera I can toss in my bag and not miss out on a photo opportunity on a business trip or quick overnighter for fun.
