Big Soundbar, Even Bigger Sound

Holiday shopping is in full swing, which means an excuse to spend money on myself. I decided this year's tech upgrade was going to be the sound system in the "man cave." I've been using a Samsung HW-K550 since 2016, and I thought I'd go for an upgrade. Soundbars have made huge strides to close the g...

Many bugs!

I bought this yesterday. Had it up and running great, except after upgrading the firmware to 1003, the screen goes black and the the movie completely stops no matter what app or source I use. This will happen 10 - 15 times during a movie. Tried several different movies, and several different devices...

ok. good quality, but the volume from the rear speaker is really low. I had to lower all the volume from the main sound bar to hear something from the hear speakers. really frustrating because I paid quite a lot and now I'm stuck with it.

Solid hardware, terrible software

sound quality when it works is nice but every week i encounter a new software issue. most recently hdmi arc audio stopped working and required a hard reboot of the soundbar to work. wifi audio constantly clips in and out and is essentiallly unusable. surround sound only works on wifi though, so your options are surround sound that clips in and out or just the bar itself. sound menu options connected to a samsung tv are imcomplete ("greyed out") with no explanation. i have updated the firmware to the most recent. if you are looking for a nice sound system, pass on this one and put your money towards nicer hardware that doesn't require such dependence on atrocious software.

Horrible Hand Shake

i brought this up to samsung, not looking to send the entire unit back to get refurb. first issue was the buttons on the side failed and kept muting. opened it up instead of sending back as i didnt want to be without my new sound system for weeks and disconnected the cable to the buttons and fixed it. next is the hand shake between tv inputs. it fails 90% of the time turning the tv on and you have to fo through all inputs before selecting. this is a major issue and half the time the sound the fails and i need to unplug the unit. highly not recommended. i even asked them to trade this clearly failed unit in for a new one that would even buy at discount and heard nothing. i would never buy a sound related product from tbis company.

i really do like my soundbar. just a couple of things are keeping me from a five star rating: 1. when our dvr had a technical failure, it knocked out the sound for all sources. after way too much searching, i restarted the dvr and reset the soundbar. all was well. 2. sometimes the sound from the virtual sides is muddied or "rattles." i then have to chamge the settings until its fixed. typically, it happens on the smart setting and depends on the source and sound encoding. 3. i do wish there was a small on light so that i would be sure that it was off if i forgot to turn it off. overall, it's been a solid performer and really can crank out excellent sound. it may not have as many settings as other products, but it does have a high-quality sound.

Good sound, terrible connectivity

i have to start with the downsides simply because they far outweigh the positives. i have a 2019 samsung qled tv this piece is paired with wirelessly. the utterly disappointing thing is that 60% of the time it works every time. it frequently disconnects and requires manual reboot/reconnection. also, the tv software menu has a very strange way of connecting via wi-fi vs bluetooth. instead of displaying the two as equal options within the same menu that one could pick from, the bluetooth connectivity option is buried in a further sub-menu. for a high-end piece that costs this much it is unacceptable to have this sort of issues when connecting to a tv from the same brand (samsung) released in the same model year.

Cannot get Dolby Atmos sound from QLED TV's apps

Decided to set up high end picture and sound with the Q70R QLED Smart 4k UHD TV and splashed out on the 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos Soundbar, both by Samsung. Not sure what the point of this is, if I cannot get Dolby Atmos through the television's AppleTV app (I want to watch Gravity with Dolby Atmos soundtrack, but cannot) or the Amazon Prime app (the Jack Ryan show has a Dolby Atmos soundtrack, but again, cannot get the full experience with my setup). This is extremely concerning. I have pre-paid for 3 years of Disney+ starting November 12, and I have no guarantee that either my high end television will have an app through which I can watch Disney+ or that even if it does, I will be able to experience in Dolby Atmos, which Disney+ supports, and my TV and Soundbar setup obviously should.

Buggy soundbar

Product is buggy beyond belief. I thought Samsung would fix these issues which have been widely reported online but now even one year after introduction these protects remain buggy. The rear speakers and woofer lose connectivity every time the system is switched off and need to be power cycled to re enable. The blue lights remain on yet there is no sound. When the speakers work, the rear speakers are way too quiet. I have already tried all modes and maximized rear volume using the remote.
