The Garmin vívomove HR features a classic timepiece with a discreet touchscreen that includes Bluetooth and ANT+ connectivity, activity tracking, and 24/7 heart rate monitoring. Activity tracking follows your daily movements and heart rate, and uses these to make VO2 max and fitness age estimates. Wellness monitoring keeps track of your body's response to stress and uses a relaxation timer to help you manage stress. Smart notifications allow you to read texts, emails, and social media updates without ever using your phone. Plus, with Garmin Connect you can get connected with a community that allows you to compete in challenges and encourage other's successes.
Hybrid Smartwatch
You get the best of both worlds when physical, ticking watch hands meet a touchscreen and a discreet display. The smart display only appears when you quickly turn your wrist to glance at your watch. The watch hands even dynamically move out of the way when you interact with the touchscreen, then move back to the correct time when you are done.
Fashion Meets Heart
You don’t have to compromise fashion for function since this sophisticated watch monitors your heart rate from your wrist. In addition to counting steps and monitoring sleep, vívomove HR uses heart rate to provide calories burned information and quantify the intensity¹ of your fitness activities.
Stress Tracking
You most likely experience stress at some point in your day, but how much? The vívomove HR smartwatch lets you know when you are having a calm, balanced or stressful day and everything in between — thanks to all-day stress tracking. If your stress level gets elevated during your day, you’ll know it’s time to take a break and maybe fend off a headache or other physical symptoms. Use the relaxation timer to work through a deep breathing exercise, and lower your stress.
Fitness Monitoring
vívomove HR is truly made to look good and help you feel good. This watch features fitness monitoring tools that give you a better idea of your current fitness levels. Thanks to the wrist heart rate monitor, you can get a VO2 max estimate. It can also gauge your fitness age, so with hard work and regular exercise over time — you can work toward a lower number.
Smart and Sophisticated
Never miss a text or notification, thanks to smart notifications² that appear on your digital display. Your fitness and wellness tracking data will be automatically uploaded to the free Garmin Connect™ online community. Even control your music from the watch.
Move IQ™ Feature
No need to start and stop your activity timer each time you begin a walking activity. The vívomove HR smartwatch automatically starts your walking activities and then lets you review your daily activities on Garmin Connect.
Share and Compete
Syncing your activities to Garmin Connect is for more than just storing your data. Garmin Connect is a thriving online community where people on the go can connect and compete by joining challenges, encourage each other’s successes and even share their triumphs via social media. Garmin Connect is free and available on the web or on your smartphone with the Garmin Connect™ Mobile app.
Overall I'm happy with my purchase. The Vivosmart 4 has a lot of great features packed into a tiny package. It is light and slender, almost to the point where you wish the miniature screen were just a tad bigger. And it easily could have been while still retaining a very compact form.
For a s...ilicone band like most fitness trackers and watches usually have these days, this one has a pretty nice feel to it and seems a better quality than is typical. It is very comfortable, and not the large chunky plastic look you see on many competing devices. It fastens securely with a metal buckle and keeper that has an extra nub on it to lock the end in place. This is nice as some others tend to come loose and may fall off during strenuous activity, and I have lost one hiking in the woods before due to that.
On the downside Garmin has made a glaringly poor choice in building the watch right into this band. We all know that when you wear watches 24/7 the bands wear out, but the watch itself should last much longer, especially any device that would cost significantly more to replace than buying a new band. But when this band wears out, or the buckle or keeper strap breaks, you are going to be stuck with an expensive device you can no longer wear. And fitness trackers in particular are designed to be worn snugly on the wrist with the sensors next to your skin in order track your information properly. I knew that when I bought the watch and am willing to give it a try because it has other features I wanted which competing devices with removable bands did not. Nevertheless I am taking a star off because the band is not replaceable.
For the technology, the device does a pretty fair job of tracking your steps and distance, despite the lack of built in GPS. I would have preferred it to have GPS, especially being a Garmin, and would have been willing to pay more. It would be nice if they offered a Vivosmart 4-GPS version to allow the consumer to decide if they want to spend more for the one with GPS or don't need it and opt for the more streamlined version. So thats another reason for only 4 stars.
The battery life appears to be very good, even with the Pulse Ox on. Which is fortunate because measuring the Pulse Ox is one of the key features that sets the Vivosmart 4 apart and it would be a nuisance to have to turn it on and off to save the battery. I haven't had it long enough to know for sure how long it would go without charging, but after 24 hours even with Pulse Ox on, it appeared to have gone down very little. Like most of these devices it has a proprietary charger unique to this particular device. Which I also don't like as you are dependent on that one cable, remembering to take it with you and not lose it if you are traveling, etc. And having to carry it around when you travel, not only are you at high risk of losing it, but the cable is more likely to wear out or get a short in it . It would be helpful if they would at least make the usb cord separate so it could plug into the docking cradle with a micro usb, and you could at least easily replace the cord if needed. And then include a spare docking cradle as standard with the device so you could keep one at home you don't have to move and another for travel.
On the good side, this charger does clip securely to the device with no fussing to try to get the charging prongs lined up just right like some others. And the watch screen tells you when it is fully charged. However, it won't tell you the perecentage of charge. On the down side, it seems to take an hour or two just to top off the battery when it has barely gone down, so if you let it go the full 5-7 days or whatever it is supposed to last it might take quite a while to charge.
There are no buttons on this device. The watch screen is supposed to display when you lift up and twist your wrist to look at it. Most of the time this movement is not not sufficient to display the screen. The other way to get the screen to display is to double tap it. This takes some getting used to, and the screen tapping needs to be fairly light, but tapping too lightly or too firmly and/or frequently won't work well.
Once the screen displays, you either swipe the screen vertically to see the other information/choices, like number of steps, floors, calories etc. There is also a little dash at the bottom of the screen which is the menu button - the screen must first be displaying to use this, and then you have to tap it. This will bring up your other options if you want to change settings, or measure your heart rate or Pulse Ox.
The monochrome screen is bright enough to read most of the info fairly easily, but the screen is also too small to display very much so not that great if you want to be able to have notifications.
While it will work or most of the info without your phone nearby, it wants to stay connected to the phone with bluetooth. If you are connected and moving around the house or yard without your phone and lose the bluetooth signal it will keep reminding you to reconnect to bluetooth. It must have be connected with bluetooth and have location turned on in your phone for the weather icon to work.
It also expects you to be consistent in when you go to bed and when you get up, and to name those times in settings. If you are on your weekend and want to sleep in, you either have to remember to change that in the settings or it will start vibrating and giving you reminders that it is time to get up and stretch.
The heart rate seems pretty accurate, the stress levels, Pulse Ox, and Body Battery are very nice features. Haven't had a chance to really test out the accuracy of floor counting yet but I certainly hope that works well.
Ideally would be nice to see Garmin come out with an upgrade or similar device that includes the features of the Vivosmart 4 with heart rate, Pulse Ox, Stress and Body Battery, plus:
-GPS
-replaceable watch strap and keeper strap
-docking cradle with at least a removable and replaceable cord
-slightly (but not much) larger screen for easier reading info and notifications
-measure blood pressure
-measure hydration levels

Pretty nice to small for me
I got this through a plan from my health insurance and didn't realize I had options for different styles and unfortunately I'm a big guy and it looks like I'm wearing a hair band around my wrist It's too small other than that cool features just really not for me

With the skinniest wrist known to mankind, I cannot wear most watches. But! The Vivosmart 4 does the trick. Please don't discontinue this size. Also love all the features and choices of display available.

I previously had the Vivoactive 4s version. Just a tad small for a man so when the battery started to lose some of its potency I called Garmin to see if I could get it swapped. They did it for me at no extra charge. Wow. Nice. I like to keep it simple. My 3 fields I like to use are last lap pace, total distance and net time. Therefore I'm only scratching the possibilities. When not running I like looking at the body battery and step counter that I have customized on the watch face. Battery life is good. Only 2 thing I would change. I would have liked the watch to beep. Also I haven't figured out how to make my default screen when running just 3 fields. I have to scroll down.

I have to pay for certain features that Garmin included for free. That is a plus. I want to sync steps. If I charge Garmin and still wearing my other smart Watch. The count doesn't;t sync. Also Garmin missing my steps on stairs. Then my reads are missing when I do have watch on.

I have had my vivosmart 4 for about a month now. I like the challenges and working towards badges. It makes you want to get out and walk or what ever exercise you enjoy doing. The only thing I am unhappy about is the stair counter. It's not calculating the stairs correctly. I could go up and down four or five times before it registers that I climbed some stairs. I also like the app. Its easy to use.
I am very happy with the watch.

What I like about this is the fact that it is smaller than some of the other options out there, and I wanted something smaller and lower profile for my wrist. The downside with that is that you can see less on the screen at the same time, but as long as you're OK with that this is a solid purchase. It does take some getting used to, in terms of exactly where on the small screen you need to press to get some of the notifications and alarms to dismiss (you have to be pretty exact to press the right button). I have also had a few workouts not save and reflect in my phone app … Which may have been because I thought I was clicking on the save button, but due to the small screen I clicked don't save? A little bit of hiccups transitioning to use this, but still overall pleased.

I bought this a few weeks ago. The price and size were perfect. Not being tech savvy, it took me a bit to get it synchronized with my Noom app but the online manual was a tremendous help. So far, I'm very happy with the features and would recommend to anyone.

I brought this a month ago and I really wish I hadn't. It doesn't record steps on a treadmill or stair stepper. My heart rate is inaccurate and to navigate through the watch face applications is frustrating to say the least. It's not user friendly
