My roomba was able to do things I did not expect. One of the first things he encountered was a thick jute rug. He bumped it once and I thought that was it, he's thinks it's a barrier, but no. He backed up and hit the edge twice until he climbed over! Then later it was like he remembered and I watche...d him adjust his approach to an angle and got up on the rug first try. He really makes sure he can't go somewhere before giving up.
After this I thought, he is definitely going to accidentally bump my plant stands over as he's feeling them out. But no, it was like he could tell the stands were moving in reaction to his bump and so he did not persist, but continued around them.
I watched him climb up on the pedestal bottom of my end table and circle with one wheel on the floor and one wheel on the base to ensure he got all around the table.
He also knows how to clean a rug. I knew he might adjust his suction as he went from hardwood to rug, but I did not think he would be able to tell "this is a rug" and clean it appropriately. But he did. He made sure to get the edges all around the rug and once he was on the rug, he didn't leave the rug until he was done.
I have a rug with 2" tassels and I thought certainly I will have to make a change here for him. But no. He seemed to release the tassels when he realized what it was and continued on. So he cleaned out the tassels, if unwittingly, and continued on.
He found a cat toy and even a lost pair of glasses under a bed. These items didn't stop him and it was like he brought them out from under the bed "here I found this for you".
I had to clean some hair out of his brushes when he finished but the amazing thing was this didn't stop his work. No horrible burnt rubber smell like other vacuums with tangled brushes. You should definitely give your roomba proper maintenance, but I was impressed with how little could stand the way of him completing his job.

Pluses and Minuses
I liked that this vacuum eventually covered most of my home and did a decent job of vacuuming. I live in a split level that has multiple floors and I moved the Roomba around from floor to floor. Though this i3+ did occasionally miss crossing a threshold into a bathroom it generally, eventually, vacu...umed most of the area including under beds and couches where it fit and which never normally are vacuumed. It is tolerably quiet for a vacuum except when emptying itself while in the dock which sounds like a jet plane revving its engines for takeoff which makes it unusable at night when sleeping. I would like the option to shut off the emptying cycle at night and let the vacuum do as much as it could until it was full or the battery low and return to the base and quietly recharge and wait for further instructions to finish the job when I was awake.
I returned the i3+ for two main reasons. One is I have multiple Persian and machine made rugs with fringe and the Roomba pulled out or damaged the fringe on several of them. On one of my Persian rugs the Roomba grabbed a corner of the fringe and was literally unravelling the corner of the rug until I saw it and finally manually stopped the Roomba. The other reason I returned the i3+ is the remedial navigation system on the i3 Roombas. The i3 just bumps around doing some spots over and over again, even when they are just hard tile or wood floors not needing extra vacuuming time, and takes a very long time to do a big room(s). The i3 has to learn your room over and over again every time you use it, unlike its more expensive siblings which purportedly map and remember where all the furniture is in your rooms. This means you have to listen to the Roomba vacuum and empty itself much longer than necessary while it bumps around your place like a drunken sailor. The i3 does the jet engine emptying cycle every time it returns to the dock to charge even if it isn't full, which makes sense to save extra trips back to the dock to empty w

Not worth the money

I have had my i3 since March 2022 and it was working well until recently when it randomly began displaying a constant spinning white circle and went completely unresponsive. After trying all of the troubleshooting online I finally talked to a customer service rep who informed me the robot was having a software issue and would need to be replaced. After having spent several hundred dollars on this product, I would have expected it to last much longer than 3 years. Additionally, as this software issue is clearly an iRobot issue (and not anything I could control), I believe they should accept responsibility for the poor longevity of their product. The warranty is only good for 1 year - but if I spend $300+ on a product I definitely want to be assured it will last longer than 1 year. Overall I am not happy with the longevity of the product, iRobot's response to this problem, and I would not be interested in spending that amount of money again for a product that lasted less than 3 years.

Doesn't work, potential fire hazard

Had this product for over a year. It got stuck easily and didn't always clean everywhere. A few weeks ago one of the charging ports on the base melted, causing it not to reach the robot to recharge. After contacting with customer service they sent me a different model base and a newer bin for robot. After installing each, it work decent for a few days then started having problems. It wouldn't clean everywhere, say the bin is full when there's hardly any dirt in it, wouldn't dispose the dirt into the base. I don't think there's anything in the bag on the new base. The robot won't even recognize that the original bin is attached. Customer service recommended a factory reset, which only made things worse. They also don't believe me when I said that they sent a new bin for the robot along with the new base. The robot hasn't left its base in about a week now. Would never recommend any of these products to anyone.

It does a good job vacuuming but not mopping. It does seem lost and goes over certain areas over and over and then skips areas all together. This could be a mapping issue and may take time to perfect. As far as mopping goes, it only puts down water, it doesn't suck it back up, so you really aren't getting a good cleaning, it's just moving water around with the dirty sponge. I am going to return it for one that just vacuums since I paid about $100 more for it to do both. I am very impressed with the self emptying feature and will definitely get that again!

Broke right after warranty- no options from iRobot

It's pretty expensive for a device that only last about a year or so. I paid $600+ for a Braava m6 mopping machine and an i3 robot vacuum . And both broke right after that one year period when the warranty expired. The i3 Robot vaccum just died one day, wouldn't respond at all. Customer Service walked me through instructions to reset the battery (which didn't work off course), before telling me I need to send it for repair which would cost $299+shipping, which was stupid. This repair price was more than what a lot of nice more powerful and self-emptying machines would cost now a days. I just threw it into Trash. Would never buy from iRobot again.

Spent more time than vaccuming

I have spent more time trying to get the robot to work than it has vaccuming. This robot constantly has error codes and will not run. After less than a year, it is now unable to dock on the base correctly and will not charge. Biggest waste of money I have ever spent. Do not buy. Sad part is, when it is working or is not stuck, it cleans great.

This product worked great until it didn't. It has a 1 year warranty. At 16 months the cliff sensors stopped working and prevents it from working at all. Their customer service response was just "sorry. You have to buy a new one. There are no replacement parts for the sensor". I still have my original roomba from the early 2000's that is working fine with ongoing maintenance. Gave it to my sister when I decided to "upgrade" and get a quieter version. So now my basically brand new roomba is not working. It was not overused. The app says the original filter still has 28 hours left, the original edge brush 132 hours left and original brush 288 hours.

Maybe I got a lemon, but this thing simply does not work consistently. It will clean the mapped area, one time and the next time I use it it cleans one or two rooms and cleans them one to two times. The app is also not user-friendly. I am told to go to product settings to help me connect to the Internet. Where the…. is product settings? There are other topics that I need to be able to access, and I cannot find them.

Had a previous model that didn't self-empty and am so disappointed with my new purchase. The vacume gets "stuck" at least 65% of runs, and does not pick up visible dirt. I wish I hadn't thrown away the box because I would have returned.

The iRobot app consistently fails to connect to my new Roomba i3+, despite exhaustive troubleshooting attempts. Consequently, I have a device with a manual on/off switch that, compared to competitive offerings, is primitive. iRobot's Customer Service and Tech Support have proven incompetent. If you're in the market for a robot vacuum, I strongly advise researching and investing in a brand with better performance and support.
