Love this chainsaw!

Haven't used a chainsaw in about 25 years. Bought the chainsaw and mower, so I have 3 batteries and 2 chargers. Used 3 batteries to limb and cut up the tree in the photo before my thumb started to cramp. Next weekend I finished the job with less than 2 batteries. The saw is very easy to use and w...

Decent chainsaw but has some issues

Bought this a couple of months ago and have used it twice. It cuts well but is really heavy with the battery. My gas chainsaw is lighter, which shocked me. It also leaks oil like crazy. It just runs out the cap and also I think it puts too much out for the chain. It also throws the chain consta...

This is my second 18", 80 V chainsaw. It was great to use, and weight wise was very comfortable. Power was adequate and I used it several times each month cutting 20" longs frequently.

I've had this saw 4 years or so. I have a sawmill and use it to cut trees down, trim logs, cut firewood, slabwood and branches. Mostly Doug Fir but cut all types. Biggest tree I cut was 24" Pine. I've gone thru a few chains and just put a new bar on. My charger quit working and was promptly replaced, just under the warranty period. Customer service has been great, I love the saw and folks are usually impressed how well it works - its all about keeping the chain razor sharp! Great tool - just noticed the 60V saw is rated more powerful??Might have to try that next!

I wouldn't buy this if I were a logger running a saw all day 6 days a week, but it's plenty for what I need. Right out of the box I used it to fell a 20 or so inch dead gum in my yard. Got most of it cut into firewood on the first charge.

Official Response by Greenworks Tools - BV

Hello Red89, Thank you for your review. We are concerned to read that you are not completely satisfied with the amount of cuts you are getting with this battery, this 2Ah battery can provide up to 100 cuts per charge. Please know that batteries in the same voltage platform will ultimately perform the same but the run time will vary. The higher the ampere-hour (Ah) rating is, the more run time the battery has to offer. We would be happy to investigate to see whether your cuts to run time would be considered average, simply contact us directly through chatbot on www.greenworkstools.com that will direct you to a live agent or call us on Greenworks Pro toll-free helpline at 1-855-345-3934.

Bought this a couple of months ago and have used it twice. It cuts well but is really heavy with the battery. My gas chainsaw is lighter, which shocked me. It also leaks oil like crazy. It just runs out the cap and also I think it puts too much out for the chain. It also throws the chain constantly. I don't know why but just cutting some branches off a downed tree it would pop off. It did that 3 times while I was trying to trim a bunch of small branches of a dead pine tree.

Identifying and ordering parts is unnecessarily difficult. When you enter "80V, 18" chain saw" there should be a "Order parts" tab, but I don't see one.

VERY low battery life, but works well when charged

The saw cuts well with a full battery and sharp chain. The advertised comparison to a 42cc gas saw is overstated, this saw doesn't have that kind of torque and easily overpowered if you're too aggressive. The battery drains quickly during medium-duty use, 12" dia softwood. You'll be lucky to fell, limb, and cut 8' lengths on one tree before the battery dies. Not a problem if you plan accordingly (haul or chip limbs, clean up, etc.) while the battery charges. As advertised, it charges fully in about 30 minutes. This is not a replacement for a gas saw unless you're only doing light-duty cleanup, but it's a great addition for that light-duty work.

Could be So Good

I purchased this saw a year ago, but did not use it until recently. It looks like a nicely engineered saw. If only it worked as good as it looks. The chain has come off 4 times in the first 2 uses. The first time I attributed it to being a new saw and the chain breaking in. Unfortunately, it continued to do this despite proper tightening (and torquing of the fasteners). I have 4 other professional level saws and know how to properly tension the chain. I have no similar problems with these saws. All other aspects of this saw appear to be excellent if only the chain would stay on. I am hoping that Greenworks has an engineering solution and anxiously await their comments on this issue. Right now the saw is very frustrating to use. 2/5/23: I used the saw again yesterday and the chain once again came off. Other than that, the rest of the saw seems excellent. I am thinking that the problem is the thin bar and chain that they provide. I am hoping to hear something soon from Greenworks about a solution.

Official Response by Greenworks Tools - BV

Hello ericjimdor, Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you have experienced an issue with the chain not staying on. New chains tend to stretch; so be sure to check the chain tension frequently and tension as required. However, be sure to never tension a warm chain before storing as chains shrink when cooling and this can damage the chain, bar and saw. Please ensure that when you remove the side cover, the chain wheel is secured to the shaft. If the chain wheel is not secured this could be causing issues with the chain staying. If the chain is secured the issue would be the tension procedure. If you're still experiencing issues, please contact Greenworks Pro toll-free helpline at 1-855-345-3934. We would like to hear more of your experience and provide an instructional guide to help you navigate the tension on your chainsaw.

Cuts great . I haven't used it enough to see how much it can cut before it needs a charge . Made quick work of brush pile of 2-4 inch branches . Best past don't have to mess with a choke and pulling starter 30 times !
