      Great with minor nit picks

I purchased this to replace a 20yr old corded mower. It had some minor switch issues but, felt like the time to upgrade. First of all, I love being cord free. Soooo much better. I'm mowing a smallish suburban front yard (1,500 sq ft or so), comprised of thick St. Augustine grass. So far, the Green...

Hello bergerhthrb7, Thank you for choosing Greenworks for your lawn care needs. This kit is a push mower. This information can be viewed in the description and features prior to purchasing. A self-propelled lawn mower has a drive system to propel it forward while a push mower relies on manual effort to move. A self-propelled mower can climb hills with very little effort on your part, but a push mower is an affordable way to mow a flat yard. We have product experts available to answer any questions and concerns you may have, and we will work with you to ensure that you pick the platform that best suits your needs, we are sorry we were not able to assist you prior to purchasing this kit. Should you have any questions or warranty needs, please contact us directly through chatbot on Greenworks Tools website that will direct you to a Live agent or call us at 1-888-909-6757 (1-888-90WORKS). I just used for the first time today. I live in Michigan and normally we do not mow until the end of April at the earliest. I have under an acre and use an electric riding mower for the bulk, but also do quite a large area with a push mower. I was shocked how much I mowed and still have 1 bar left on each battery. It more than surpassed what I was expecting. It's very easy to use and I love the self-propel feature; my first mower with it. It's super quiet and I love that it folds up easy. I couldn't be happier that I purchased this and I did a ton of research before I picked this one.

I bought this a year ago and have gotten some great use out of it in my backyard and volunteering at church. I've used it to fell trees, brush, and cut logs up to 8" diameter. After cutting up three trees it was sharp as ever, and it could easily handle a tree and more on each charge. Only caution is to check that your chain stays tight. It's so easy to use I have forgotten to since my bar up and derailed before.

      Terrible trimmer

Had this model for 2 years now. Tried to use it as a backup in case my other trimmer broke down. Well, my other trimmer broke and I had to put it to use. It's worthless. It's a double line feed, which means double trouble. It doesn't feed right, doesn't keep the line tight. It's a nightmare to try to change the line, just to have it not work again. I'd return it, but I'm sure it's out of warranty. I've had my share of trimmers and this one is the worst. Don't buy this one.I have the greenworks electric riding mower and it's fine excecpt for the bagger chute assembly which broke on me. I also have the 80 volt push mower which is fine. Was definitely expecting better from greenworks.

Official Response by Greenworks Tools - BV

Hello Dogfather, We appreciate you taking the time to provide this feedback on your string trimmer and apologize that you've run into issues with the line feed. While you operate the machine, the cutting line gets worn and shorter. You can adjust the length of the cutting line. 1. Hit the trimmer head against the ground while you operate the machine. 2. Line is automatically released and the cut-off blade cuts the excess length. To replace the cutting line. Cut a piece of cutting line approximately 3m long. Bend the line at the midpoint and hook the loop into the slot in the center rim of the spool. Make sure that the line snaps into position in the slot. 3. With your finger between the lines, wind the lines equally and tightly around the spool in the indicated direction. 4. Put the lines in the guide slots. 5. Do not wind the lines beyond the edge of the spool. Alternately, replacement spools can be purchased directly from Greenworks. Part number R0200198-00. Should you have any further questions or warranty needs, please contact us directly through chatbot on www.greenworkstools.com that will direct you to a live agent or call on Greenworks Pro toll-free helpline at 1-855-345-3934. Purchased this 16 inch chainsaw five years ago and it is still going strong. I love to be in the field watching my co-workers pulling, sweating and cursing while trying to start their gas powered chainsaws while I am cutting away. Easily serviced in the field with chain changes and well that is about it because this thing never quits! I love it and would never go back to gas again. Just carry the extra batteries with you and work all day.

Bought this last summer. Tried using it 3 times. The line will not advance. Very disappointed.

Official Response by Greenworks Tools - BV

Hello VX100, We apologize for any trouble you have encountered and appreciate your feedback on this matter. The machine has an auto-feed head. If the cutting line does not automatically advance, it can be tangled or empty. 1. Start the machine and keep 3s. Release the trigger until the machine totally stops. 2. Repeat the above step until you can hear the line-cutting noise. The line will extend approximately 0.4 in. with each stop and start of the switch trigger until the line reaches the cutoff blade and the cut-off blade cuts the excess length. NOTE * Do not pull or release the trigger too fast. We hope this suggestion helps, should you continue to have any further issues or warranty needs, please contact us directly through chatbot on www.greenworkstools.com that will direct you to a live agent or call us at 1-888-909-6757 (1-888-90WORKS). My 7-year review of 4 Greenworks tools.

My 7-year review of 4 Greenworks tools. I've been a user of Greenworks tools for 7 years, and I thought it was time that I left a long-term overall review. Note that I am putting this same review on four tools, and in the case where tools have been discontinued, I've selected the tool that appears to be the upgrade to the one I own. My battery-tool addiction started about 15 years ago, prior to Greenworks, but included only heavy lead-acid lawnmowers…. so I knew what I wanted, and what needed to change. But I also knew that I would eventually replace every gas tool, both for the environment as well as for ease of maintenance. I try to inspire neighbors to do the same thing, and I look forward to the day when our neighborhood is not plagued by the incessant sound of gas mowers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, and snow blowers. My first Greenworks tool was a 40v single stage "digipro" snowblower, which I bought used in 2016 (so it is now about 10 years old). I live in Eastern Canada, with two large driveways to clear, so I had no delusion that a little 1-stage 40v machine could tackle the plow-drift from a 30cm snowfall. But I was pleasantly surprised to find it easily cleared the frequent 10cm snowfalls we get here, and that it was light enough to lift onto our decks and raised walkways to clear places where our big old gas blower could not go. In the 7 years that I have used it, it has never broken down, even though I have hit some pretty-tough hunks of ice. There is a bit of damage to the plastic blades from the above, but nothing that affects the performance. Its great to get out in the early morning and clear snow silently while my family is still asleep! Since the snowblower worked so well, and came with 2 4AH batteries, I was inspired to add a lawnmower, which is the older version of the 21" brushless mower that I have linked this review to. We pushed this mower very hard (not that it was hard to push!) for 6 years. We have two large (100' x 90') properties to cut, and the turf is very uneven. In the spring, when grass grows like hay, the mower gets a workout, and it will take at least four battery charges to do both lots. Later in the summer, we can do one whole lot on a single 4AH battery. The mower is still going strong, and the only sign of wear is that the wheels have become wobbly. I'm not sure about the new models, but the wheels on ours are just nylon with no ball bearings, so they eventually wear and start to wobble. I know I can get new wheels, and I will probably do so next year. Another comment about battery mowers: I love that I can just turn it upside down to clean it out or re-sharpen the blade. You can't do that with gas! I like to keep the blade sharp, and it is very easy to remove it and touch it up on a grinding wheel. Shortly after the mower, we bought the 40V 14" chainsaw. I don't own a gas chainsaw and I never want to, but we have a fireplace and a lot of trees on our properties which often need trimming. The 40v chainsaw is wonderful for this, mostly because of how quiet it is, but also how easy it is to use and maintain. There is a lot of new infill in our neighborhood, and people often take down trees illegally. So those of us who care about these things are always on edge when we hear a chainsaw. I love that I can trim my brush (legally) in silence without stirring up panic in the neighborhood. I don't know why any homeowner would want or need a large gas chainsaw. That said, I have also found the limits of the saw: taking down larger trees at the cottage, or cutting thick (>10") hardwood branches will sometimes cause the saw to temporarily stall (it resets in a few seconds). The chain also needs sharpening and tightening sometimes (as all chainsaws do) and I love how easy it is to adjust the tension. I also like that the oil doesn't leak all over the place, and that the chain is oiled automatically without the need to "pump" the reservoir. The final item we bought is the 40V 450 CFM blower. It is not Greenworks' most powerful, and it is not capable of clearing serious leaves on our huge yards, but that's not why we bought it. It does clear the dirt and leaves and debris from the garage and patio and driveways very nicely, and I'm very happy about that for the low price we paid. It's also very quiet compared to other battery blowers we've heard, and the variable speed is great: when clearing dust and dirt from inside the garage or basement, you don't want to run this at full throttle! My final comments are on the batteries. We have a collection of 5 4AH batteries now, and we use them very heavily, especially in "hay season". Except for the lawnmower, we seldom need more than one battery at a time. However, 2 of the batteries no longer hold a complete charge: they charge up to 3 of the 4 indicator lights. One of these is no longer capable of running the lawnmower or chainsaw, but they both run the leaf blower for a decent amount of time. I have heard warnings that one should never charge Lithium-Ion batteries when they are cold, and it is possible that we caused some of that damage this way before I knew better. In any case, no battery will last forever, and the two that are dying may be the ones from the snowblower which are now 10-years old. My summary: I love my Greenworks tools, and would have no hesitation recommending them, especially to someone who does not push them as hard as we do. However, I do hope someday to replace my big 29" gas snowblower with a 2-stage battery model, and I know this will require a higher voltage battery system. For that reason, I expect I will also move my other tools to the new system eventually, especially the lawnmower, and maybe the chainsaw, as I invest in bigger batteries. I encourage anyone thinking about battery tools to think about all the equipment you will eventually want, and to choose a brand/battery that will work for everything. I'll be waiting to see what Greenworks (or other companies?) offer in a 28" snowblower, and my next upgrades will be determined by that.
