This product does a good job of venting smoke and odors. The only reason I didn't give it an "excellent" was because of the lights. Something other than halogen lights would be better. Perhaps some LED lights would be better.

We purchased and installed the product about 6 months back as part of a kitchen remodel. We had a downdraft cooktop before so were concerned that an under-cabinet hood may be too prominent. Fortunately, this unit is low profile so almost blends in to our kitchen without being intrusive. Installation was a bit challenging in that one has to hold the unit up to the cabinet (so tough to do with one person) as it's being screwed in. The unit has been performing very well; we really like the multi levels of brightness options. The fan/ventilation is also good though it can get noisy on the highest setting. In most cases the low or medium setting was sufficient. Overall we are vey happy with the product and would recommend it.

I researched the heck out of range hoods before selecting this one from Broan. It was a mid-range model for a modest kitchen upgrade we were doing but it had top of the line features. Three speed quiet exhaust, four bulb illumination with theatrical fade and a sleek profile. Perfect for our needs. There are more deluxe models available but if you research, this model is available a some sharply reduced prices.

Had this hood installed in a non-duct installation. The steam from pots on the stove are not drawn into the hood. I put a small piece of napkin against the intake and it fell off. It appears the vents on top are to small and static pressure builds ups preventing the fan from drawing.

We chose the QP230SS because of its positive reviews. I was tired of having to air my clothes out because the smell from the previous night's dinner (especially when we cooked fish or anything fried) would permeate my closet. Despite our kitchen's small size, I'm glad we made the decision to exchange our over-the-range microwave with this range hood. It really is quiet, and although we still need to close the kitchen doors when frying, it is, for the most part, very effective. We have a tile backsplash, and chose to install Broan's stainless steel backsplash to cover the area between the oven and the bottom of the range hood. Gorgeous? No. Acceptable? Yes.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

For the price, this model is a moderate option. It is the 2nd unit Ive had, as the first one broke in the first 2 months. The replacement is not that strong and rattles a lot. I recommend buying a higher priced model, as the low cost model is not very high quality.
